There is a lot of buzz around responsive web design! What is it exactly? Do I need it for my website? So I am going to fill you in on what exactly it is and why it is becoming one of the most important features you can invest in for your website.
What is it? The definition of responsive web design according to Wiki is – “is a web design approach aimed at crafting sites to provide an optimal viewing experience—easy reading and navigation with a minimum of resizing, panning, and scrolling—across a wide range of devices (from mobile phones to desktop computer monitors)” When you are on your desktop on a regular website you will see the “stock” larger version that is full sized. When you are on your tablet or mobile phone, a large portion of your website is cut off, because your viewing screen is much smaller then it is on your full sized computer. When you are viewing a responsive website the screen changes size to fit your device and the website quickly optimizes so that you have the best viewing experience possible. It allows for links to be a manageable size and easy to click on, photos are easier to see and shopping is streamlined for your device.
Do you need it? I think that it is an important feature for your website….I personally look at it as an investment. With a larger portion of customers shopping and browsing for services on a device vs. their desktop, this allows them to view your website and your offerings quickly and easily. The amount of people using phones and tablets to browse, search and shop is only going to grow over the next couple of years so implementing responsive technology now means you’re ahead of the game!
